RINGGOLD, Ga. (AP) - A northwest Georgia woman charged with leaving her 2-year-old daughter in a ditch near a playground told police she is addicted to prescription drugs and hoped a nice family would find the child.
Thirty-1-year-old Jennifer Haines was being held Friday in the Catoosa County Jail on charges that include second-degree cruelty to children and marijuana possession. Jail records did not show that she has an attorney.
Police told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that Haines told them she could no longer care for her daughter (http://bit.ly/mPxv2W ).
A report states that after leaving her daughter Tuesday, Haines walked into a nearby home to watch through the windows and see what happened.
Several motorists called police saying a toddler wearing shorts and a diaper was walking down a street in the rain.
