KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A National Guardsman surprised his son at school, after being deployed for a year.
Specialist Greg Sword has been deployed since last October, since then he's kept up with his family through cell phones and Skype.
Greg says that he missed the little things, while being away.
Since last October he's been in Iraq with members of the 345th military intelligence theatre support battalion.
Greg's two sons were able to keep in touch with him over the internet, but his 6-year-old son Matthew was having a hard time, dealing with the absence of his father, until Thursday after recess.
"It's exciting it's hard not to burst into tears," said Lisa Sword. "He's just been waiting for daddy to come home for a while."He misses him at night, sometimes he cries, he's just really happy he's home now.
Greg had a brief visit back in May, but says this homecoming will last.
"I'm just so glad to be home and lay on my own bed for a change and be with my family," said Greg. "It's just the little things you miss when you're gone."
Greg says the family plans on hitting the lake and probably the State Fair.
