ANDERSON, SC (WYFF) - Upstate deputies have arrested a man they say lied to investigators about the kidnapping of his wife and her child, triggering an AMBER Alert Tuesday night.

John Lankford Minor Jr., 44, is expected to be charged with filing a false police report, according to Chad McBride with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.

"His story was fabricated," McBride said.

Deputies said late Tuesday night, Minor reported that his wife, Lisha Nicole Minor, 24, and her son, Samuel Zachery Smith, 3, had been taken in a carjacking at the Sunset Grill on Highway 29 North about 8 p.m. John Minor is not the father of the child, McBride confirmed.

An AMBER Alert was issued about three hours later, along with a description of the man, who at the time, was believed to have taken the mother and child. Deputies said the man's first name was Jim.

The AMBER Alert was canceled about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday. That's when deputies said Lisha Minor and her son were located in Georgia. They were both safe, and Minor had consented to be with the man, deputies said.

"She apparently left of her own free will," McBride said.

Neither Lisha Minor nor the man she was with face any charges, according to McBride.

John Minor was being held in the Anderson County Detention Center.
