There's nothing more fun than pedaling down the street on two wheels, legs pumping and the wind blowing through your hair. Unfortunately, South Carolina is one of the most dangerous states in the country for bicycling with per capita fatalities nearly triple the national rate. WIS has reported on several cycling accidents recently and this year is shaping up to be one of the deadliest for the state with nine fatalities through May.
It's not that bicycling is inherently unsafe, it's really about motorists and cyclists becoming better informed about how to safely share the road. To that effect, The Palmetto Cycling Coalition has partnered with Bikelaw to create a campaign called Safe Streets Save Lives. According to their press release, the PCC says the campaign is designed to address crucial aspects of reformed bike laws improving the road experience for both groups.
If you are interested in learning more about Safe Streets Save Lives, go to their website below and sign up for more information. Let's learn to share the road safely and keep bicycling the fun, energy-saving exercise it should be.
That's my perspective. Let me hear from you.
