Duplex fire displaces six, causes $100k in damage

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The Columbia Fire Department is on the scene of an apartment fire on Jackson Avenue in Columbia. 

Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins said crews arrived on the scene before 3:15 p.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the building and fire inside the duplex. There are no reports of any injuries.

Jenkins said three of the four units were occupied, and six people were displaced by the fire. The Red Cross is helping them.

Jenkins said the fire caused about $100,000 in damage. 

A cooking accident was found to be responsible for starting the fire. One person was in the home, but got out okay.
