LITTLE MOUNTAIN, SC (WIS) - An elderly man is in the hospital after the car he was driving was hit by a train at a private railroad crossing Wednesday afternoon.

A spokesperson says the train hit the 1963 Volkswagen Bug around 2:00 p.m. on Mt. Tabor Rd. in the community of Little Mountain.

Investigators said the accident happened where a driveway crosses the railroad tracks. The train was traveling west when a vehicle traveling south tried crossing the tracks, according to troopers.

The spokesperson says the 83-year-old driver of the car was transported to the hospital. We don't know the extent of his injuries.

Troopers said the one car locomotive was carrying an engineer and a conductor who were not hurt. No charges have been filed.
