SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The Sumter County Sheriff's Office has identified 40-year-old Christopher Bryan Rodko of the 6000 block of Rooster Circle in Pinewood as the alleged suspect involved in a fatal shooting that left one woman dead.
Sheriff Anthony Dennis said 35-year-old Ginger McLeod was shot and killed by her sister's boyfriend, after getting into a physical altercation with her sister on Sunday around 5:00 p.m. in Pinewood.
"Rodko went to his vehicle and obtained his weapon, and the sister asked if he was going to shoot," said Sumter County Chief Deputy Hampton Gardner. "He said 'yeah,' and he shot her."
Gardner said the sisters were arguing over cigarettes and food, when the arguing turned physical. Deputies say Rodko tried to pull the sisters apart before getting his gun out.
Investigators say Rodko told them he unloaded his gun on Ginger McLeod. When deputies arrived, they found Rodko sitting in the yard ready to tell what happened. "He realized what he had done," said Gardner. "He waited until law enforcement arrived, and basically told us in his words what happened and he surrendered himself without incident."
Several of Rodko's neighbors showed up for his court appearance Tuesday. None wanted to interview on camera, but all said he was not the type of person to kill someone.
Rodko will face a circuit court judge for a bond setting within the next several weeks. The sheriff's office says he does not have a criminal record, and deputies have never worked a call concerning him.
