BLACKSBURG, SC (WBTV) - A 55-year-old woman has serious injured after troopers says she was run over by her own van while trying to save her dog.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, 55-year-old Terry Lekins was run over early Friday morning around 7:56 a.m. along Huffman Ridge Road in Blacksburg.  Troopers say this area is just across the county line from York County.

Trooper Billy Elder told WBTV that Lekins was driving down the road, when her dog got loose from her 2009 Chrysler minivan. That's when troopers say Lekins got out of the van, didn't put the van in park and was run over by the van. The van continued moving until it hit a fence.

Trooper Elder says Lekins was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Troopers say the accident happened less than 1/10th of a mile from the entrance to Kings Mountain State Park.
