BRAVES-PHILLIES PPD

Braves vs Phillies postponed by rain

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The game between the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies has been postponed by inclement weather.

No makeup date has yet been announced for Tuesday's matchup between NL East rivals.

TITANS-DEFENSE

Titans LB Phillips likes move to 3-4 defense

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Shaun Phillips has seen a lot of change in his 10 years in the NFL. The linebacker believes that Tennessee's switch to a hybrid 3-4 defensive scheme helps the Titans keep up with the rest of the league.

Phillips said Tuesday only four or five teams played a 3-4 scheme when he came into the NFL. Now he says 20 or more teams use the 3-4, a defense that requires multiple dynamic pass rushers and playmakers. The scheme creates opportunities for more big defensive plays.

The linebacker signed a two-year deal with Tennessee after leaving the Denver Broncos. He's part of the Titans' changes under new coach Ken Whisenhunt and defensive coordinator Ray Horton. The Titans had played a 4-3 scheme since arriving from Houston in 1997.

HURRICANES WRAPUP

Hurricanes enter offseason of uncertainty

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The Carolina Hurricanes have entered perhaps their most uncertain offseason since they moved to North Carolina.

There are lingering questions nearly everywhere they look: in the front office, behind the bench and on the ice.

Finding those answers will be critical as they try to snap the Eastern Conference's longest active playoff drought.

The Hurricanes finished 13th in the 16-team East with a 36-35-11 record that kept them out of the playoffs for a fifth straight season.

That's their longest streak since moving south in 1997, and it matches the second-longest postseason drought in club history - dating back to when they were the Hartford Whalers.

Captain Eric Staal said Tuesday that "you miss the playoffs that many times in a row, everyone's going to be under the microscope."

CLEMSON-QUARTERBACKS

Dabo: QB Stoudt Clemson's starter

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says senior Cole Stoudt is the team's starting quarterback coming out of spring, and injured freshman Deshaun Watson will have the chance to compete for the job this fall.

Swinney said in a text message to The Associated Press on Tuesday that Stoudt was the leading quarterback in what had been a three-way battle to take over for record-setting starter Tajh Boyd, the starter for the past three years.

Swinney dismissed redshirt freshman quarterback Chad Kelly on Monday for conduct detrimental to the team. Kelly argued with coaches at the team's spring game this past Saturday. He also tried to get a former Miss South Carolina not to report a car accident.

Watson injured his collarbone earlier this month.

CLEMSON-RAMSEY

Clemson freshman Ramsey to turn pro

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - Clemson freshman golfer Ashlan Ramsey is turning pro after the school year.

Coach J.T. Horton announced Ramsey's plans Tuesday.

Ramsey is No. 7 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for women.

She leads Clemson in stroke average with 72.15 through nine events. The Tigers will play in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament starting Thursday. Ramsey has six top-10 finishes for Clemson this season. She was the medalist at two tournaments and runner-up at two other events.

Ramsey says playing professional golf has always been a dream. She says she'll turn pro after competing on the U.S. Curtis Cup team in June.
