18-year-old passenger killed in Sumter County crash

SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A single vehicle crash has resulted in the death of a passenger, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the PT Cruiser was traveling north on Black River Road around 5:30 p.m. Friday when it went off the left side of the road, overcorrected, went off the right side of the road and overturned.

Jerry Brunson of Sumter was the driver of the vehicle. He was taken to Tuomey Hospital along with two other back-seat passengers. Those passengers were Desmor Moses and Cedrick Miller from Rembert. The extent of their injuries are not known at this time.

The front-seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.  The Sumter County coroner identified him as 18-year-old Danzell Roberts. The coroner said Roberts died from massive trauma. He was wearing a seat belt.

The patrol's MAIT team is still investigating the crash.
