The universal quest for liberty. Nowhere has that been more evident than in the explosive events throughout the Middle East in recent weeks. I strongly believe that the desire for freedom is human nature, but these countries have lived through centuries of oppression, so why the sudden outburst of rebellion?
In this age of ubiquitous information technology and social media, it has become nearly impossible for despots and dictators to suppress news from the outside world. People in these kingdoms have become emboldened by the actions of other suppressed peoples, actions they may never have seen in previous generations. It's hard for us to comprehend sometimes that many present-day civilizations do not enjoy even the most basic of freedoms that we take for granted….the right to own property, to marry by choice, to express our religious beliefs. What we are witnessing is not just a rebellion against tyrannical rule, but the quest for natural rights and natural law.
As we watch these incredible revolts unfold, we can thank our forefathers for taking the bold steps they took to ensure the liberties we enjoy today.
That's my perspective. What's yours?
