Tougher penalties for speeders

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – South Carolina lawmakers are discussing possible changes that could cost speeders more money.

Right now anyone caught driving less than 10 miles over the limit will face a 10 to 25 dollar fine and two points deducted from their license.

A new proposal being discussed however looks to make the penalty much more costly by fining anyone speeding 150 dollars but no points deducted from their license.

Under the new revision half of the fine from each ticket would then go to the state's general fund and the other half would go to the local government body of the officer who writes the ticket.
