SUMTER, SC (WIS)- An entire building at a Sumter apartment complex was displaced after a Thursday night fire.
Crews received the initial call around 8:40pm of a fire at the Willow Run Apartments on Rast Street.
Captain Brian Horton of the Sumter County Fire Department said the affected building contained 16 apartment units. He said the fire appears to have started in the kitchen of a downstairs apartment. From there, it spread to an apartment next door along with two upstairs apartments. Captain Horton said the flames also got into the attic and the electrical system that powers the entire building.
Firefighters battled the blaze for more than an hour and were on scene until about midnight.
While no one was injured in the incident, Captain Horton did say the families in those four apartments were displaced. He said the Red Cross also provided a place to stay for the rest of the building since it was without power.
Captain Horton estimated that there was around $140,000 in damages.
