COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A number of brush fires in the Midlands have been reported by emergency crews this weekend.
One occurred Saturday evening in Lexington County where homes were threatened after a pile of burning leaves got out of control.
Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins said if you do any outdoor burning, there are guidelines you should follow. "Make sure you got a good path cleared around it," said Chief Jenkins, "Rake up any excess leaves that may be around it to keep from spreading. Put them on the pile of what you're burning. There's certain things you can't burn. You don't want to burn anything that has any kind of a petroleum base."
State law requires that you notify the forestry commission before you burn outdoors.
