COLUMBIA,SC (WIS) - The Columbia Police Department has partnered with the University of South Carolina's Carolina Community Coalition and several other agencies to hold a community safety checkpoint.
It will affect portions of the downtown area, starting Friday and running through the weekend.
Chief Randy Scott said the safety checkpoint will be held because of concerns raised by local residents and officers observing traffic violations. He said its a way for local agencies to keep the public safe.
Those involved in the safety checkpoint will be looking for a number of issues, including drunk driving, speeding, and uninsured drivers.
