COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A City of Columbia garbage truck got stuck Thursday morning when the pavement underneath it collapsed.
The truck was driving along Prentice Avenue when the road gave way under one of the front tires.
Crews say a water pipe underneath the pavement burst near the corner of Prentice and Elm Street in the Rosewood neighborhood.
Sue Gettig heard it all happen and ran outside. "It was just a loud 'clump!'" said Gettig. "Ya know, just something hitting down and hard and solid. Getting said the water pressure at her house is still pretty good even after the water main break.
The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
City crews have hoisted the truck out of the hole. The truck was not damaged and continued on it's route.
There is no word on how long it will take to repair the pipe or the road.
