IRMO, SC (WIS) - Irmo High School was on lockdown Tuesday morning because of a robbery in the vicinity of the school.

Lexington Richland School District spokesperson Buddy Price said some schools were placed modified lockdown between 10:30am and 11:00am because police were searching the person who robbed a check cashing business in the area.

Deputies say the Cash Kwik on St. Andrews Road was robbed around 9:20am. The business is in the Seven Oaks Shopping Center near Old Bush River Road.

Investigators say a man went into the business armed with a gun and demanded money.  He got away on a black or blue mountain bicycle with an undisclosed amount of money. There were no shots fired and no injuries.

The employee was unable to give a detailed physical description of the robber, according to deputies. The employee said the man was wearing blue coveralls worn as work clothes, as well as a blue bandanna that covered his face.

Price did not say what other schools were locked down. The schools are no longer on lockdown and there was no threat to students.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information about the robbery or suspect is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
