Fatal crash reported in Fairfield County

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported a fatal crash on SC Highway 34, near Winnsboro, Saturday afternoon.

Trooper Billy Elder said the driver of a 1998 Ford four-door was traveling east when he crossed the center line while rounding a curve and crashed head-on into a 1995 Nisson pick-up truck traveling west.

The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene. Trooper Elder said he was a 29-year-old male. The driver of the pick-up, 23-year-old Paul Wells, was airlifted to Palmetto Richland Hospital. The extent of his injuries are not known at this time.

Trooper Elder said both men were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
