Second robbery reported where suspects offers a service

LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) - Investigators say a robber is pretending to offer a service to his victims when he's really out to rob them.

A 77-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint last month off Old Barnwell Road. The suspect tied the woman's feet together and left with money and other items. Investigators say the man forced his way inside after telling the victim that he was collecting signatures for the salvation army.

The second robbery happened a few days later, just a short distance away near the 2000 block of Augusta Highway. Investigators say the same man used a similar story to force his way inside the victim's home with a gun.

No one was harmed in either incident, but authorities need your help stopping him. "We know that when they commit crimes like this they don't stop, so there will be other victims if we are not able to identify the person and get him off the streets," said Lexington County Sheriff James Metts.

Investigators warn not to answer the door if you don't know the person on the other end.

If you know anything about the robberies, call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
