USC basketball climbing the ladder after big wins

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The USC basketball team continued a surprising early run through the Southeastern Conference.

The Gamecocks were picked to finish at the bottom of the Eastern Division in the preseason poll, but after four conference games, Carolina leads the east with a (3-1) record. All three victories were over teams with winning records, including Vanderbilt, Florida and Arkansas.

USC knocked off the Razorbacks Wednesday Night 81-74 in overtime. The Gamecocks were able to pull off the victory despite falling behind by nine points in the second half.

That's pretty impressive, considering Head Coach Darrin Horn is starting three true freshmen with two more seeing a lot of playing time off the bench. "I'm not totally shocked by it," said Coach Horn, "It is, I think, impressive. But at the same time, we try to recruit guys that want to be in those situations, and a lot of that stuff - late game - some of it is experience and understanding the right play. You know, we had a couple bad shots and a couple defensive lapses, but I think we have a group of young men that really want to win, and I think that's evident by the little plays that are made."
