COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - The South Carolina House is taking two weeks off this legislative session.
House Speaker Bobby Harrell announced Thursday the House will not meet the week of March 21, or the week before Easter, which is April 24 this year.
The House expects to debate its budget plan for the coming year the week before March 21.
Each week of furlough for House members saves taxpayers about $50,000 in mileage reimbursement and pay for meals and lodging.
The House traditionally takes off a week around Easter.
The House took five furlough weeks in 2009 and four in 2010 to trim spending during the recession.
