High School Spotlight: Lugoff-Elgin's Caressa Samuel

LUGOFF, SC (WIS) - She's a star basketball player, senior class president and editor of the school newspaper.

It's hard to imagine how Lugoff-Elgin's Caressa Samuel finds time to sleep, which is why WIS News 10 is highlighting this Demon basketball player. "I've always been an active person, and in basketball you always have to be moving and active," said Caressa, "It is the perfect sport for me"

In fact, active is a perfect way to describe her. Caressa is one busy lady and always finds ways to keep the grades up. "She's one of the honor students on the team," stated Head Coach Von Duncan, "She takes all honors classes and is ranked 19 out of 279 in her class, which speaks volumes for her."

She is also a leader serving as senior class president. "I wanted to get involved with my school, and I felt as if I could provide a voice for the senior class," expressed Caressa, "So I took on that responsibility."

Caressa plans to continue her basketball career in college and wants to study journalism - with hopes of becoming a writer. She is preparing for that goal by serving as an editor for the school newspaper, The Pitch Fork, and chasing down the important stories for her fellow students. "I've always felt as if I am good at providing a voice for those who can't speak for themselves, and I take a lot of pride in that - and finding someone who is behind the shadows," said Caressa.

Duncan said Caressa is one of many girls on the basketball team who are on the honor roll every semester, setting an example for others.
