BLOWING ROCK, NC  (WBTV) – The North Carolina ski industry expects an extremely busy weekend with the Martin Luther King holiday.

The snow conditions are among the best many experts have seen in recent years with more snow expected to fall over the next two days.

"It's perfect timing," said one man at Appalachian Ski Resort.  Ski Patrol member Eddie Winkler says the patrol" will probably double the staff for the weekend to keep everyone safe."

The ski season has been among the best ever so far, say officials. The key, they say, has been keeping roads cleared so the tourists can get to the slopes.

Most ski areas depend on the Department of Transportation for road clearing but also use their own equipment or hire contractors to supplement the effort.

"We are going to make sure the skiers can get here," said Brad Moretz at Appalachian.
