I-26 partially blocked in Newberry Co., ice preventing detour

NEWBERRY, SC (WIS) - Black ice is believed to have caused a morning accident that has part of I-26 westbound blocked, according to Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster.

Foster says two tractor-trailers collided on I-26 westbound near the 63 mile marker Tuesday morning. Foster says one lane of the interstate is blocked, but expects delays throughout the afternoon because of the accident.

Lance Corporal Scot Edgeworth with the South Carolina Highway Patrol says the two trucks were traveling westbound on I-26 around 8:45 a.m. when one of them lost control. The trucks collided sending one into the guardrail and overturning off of the left side of the road.

One of the drivers was taken to the hospital.

Foster added that due to the ice many of the side roads in Newberry County are in poor condition and they will not be able to detour traffic around the accident.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
