SCDOT working to keep the roads clear

STATEWIDE (WIS) - The State Department of Transportation is out in full force working to get the roadways clear.

Over 1,400 employees are actively involved in road operations.  Crews have dropped over 6,400 tons of salt, 1,800 tons of salt and have used over 381,000 gallons of salt brine and CaCl.

In the Midlands, crews are reporting snow accumulation in all counties.  All roads are covered with snow and ice.  Temperatures range from 19 to 32 degrees.  Crews are pushing snow and placing anti-icing materials with the focus of their efforts on interstate routes.

In the Northern Midlands, Temperatures range from 23 to 28 degrees.  All counties are currently reporting snow. All roads are covered with snow and ice.  All counties are plowing and treating roads and bridges with anti-icing materials with the focus of their efforts on interstate routes.

In the Southern Midlands, temperatures range from 22 to 39 degrees.  Rain or freezing rain is falling across the district. Road conditions are reported as wet with the exception of Allendale and Barnwell Counties which are reporting roads partially covered with snow and ice. 

District crews are treating roads and bridges with deicing chemicals and plowing as needed. Road conditions will be continuously updated at:  http://www.scdot.org/getting/winterweather.shtml
