Two women dead in Aiken County's first fatal crash of 2011

AIKEN COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Two women are killed after a head-on collision on Highway 278 in Aiken County Saturday night.

It happened around 8:00pm near Beech Island.

Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said 29-year-old Kenny Jackson was traveling west in a 1995 Toyota Avalon when he crossed the center line and struck a 2006 Toyota Corolla traveling east.

The driver of the Corolla, 47-year-old Brenda Adams, was pronounced dead at the scene. A rear-seat passenger, 54-year-old Sheila Roberts, was pronounced dead a short time later at the Medical College of Georgia. Carlton indicated that both women died of multiple body trauma. A third person in the car, 30-year-old Jodi Stein, was a front-seat passenger and received non life-threatening injuries.

Jackson was also taken to Medical College of Georgia following the accident. Carlton expressed that his injuries were non life-threatening.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash along with the Aiken County Coroner's Office. Carlton said a toxicology report is pending.

It is the first fatal accident reported in Aiken this year.
