Charlotte driver struck and killed man crossing SC highway

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A 38-year-old man was struck and killed while trying to cross a road just outside of Ridgeway.

It happened around 7:00pm on Highway 34 near Long Road.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The Fairfield County Coroner identified him as Darryl McLurklin and said he was wearing dark clothes when he was hit. The coroner stated McLurklin died as a result of injuries sustained during the accident.

Troopers indicated the 49-year-old driver - Henry Benjamin Williams of Charlotte, NC - was not injured in the incident.

They went on to say alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
