Bower Pkwy. meeting rescheduled because of weather

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A public meeting about a major road construction project in the Harbison area has been rescheduled.

The City of Columbia Department of Public Works has rescheduled the Bower Parkway rebuilding meeting to Monday, January 24 at 9:30 a.m. The original January 10 meeting has been canceled due to forecasts of snow, ice and freezing rain that could make travel difficult for out-of-town attendees.

The heavily used road through a big section of the Harbison shopping area needs far more extensive work.

Parts of the pavement have buckled and crumbled due to poor drainage, and the pounding of 12,000 vehicles per day.

The project will affect the way many of us get to stores, restaurants and movie theaters. But city officials say the work is absolutely necessary.

Bower Parkway runs through a large portion of the shopping and entertainment district off Harbison Boulevard, so it's good the city streets division did not have to get underway during the holiday shopping season.

The public is invited to attend this meeting which will be held at the British Bulldog English Pub (1220 Bower Parkway E-10) at Columbiana Station off of Bower Parkway in Harbison.
