Suspicious packages burn workers' fingers in MD government offices

ANNAPOLIS, MD (WIS) - Two government workers in Maryland are being treated after handling suspicious packages.

The packages did not explode, but there was a flash of fire, smoke and a smell.

The contents inside burned the workers' fingers.

One package was addressed to Governor Martin O'Malley and the other was addressed to the State Transportation Department. They were opened 15 minutes apart in separate state office buildings.

Mailrooms in state offices across Maryland are being quarantined right now.
