It's Au'some: Chinese candy company bringing 120 jobs to Sumter

SUMTER, SC (WIS) - A Chinese candy company's decision to open a manufacturing facility in Sumter could create at least 120 jobs in the area, according to county leaders.

The Sumter County Council met Tuesday evening to give final approval to an agreement for Hong Kong-based Au'some (pronounced Awesome) to move into the old Bosch building at the Live Oaks Industrial Park.

Council members said the company makes gummi bears which are sold in Walmart, Target, Walgreens and CVS.

Au'some expects to begin production by the third quarter of 2011, but officials say hiring may begin by this summer. Council Chairwoman Vivian Fleming-McGhaney said the company expects to invest about $6 million into the project.

Fleming-McGhaney said the operation will be Au'some's first manufacturing facility in North America.
