AIKEN COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A head-on collision Wednesday evening killed a Charleston School of Law student and a College of Charleston student.
According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, 24-year-old Alexander Bush of Aiken was killed when the Ford Explorer he was driving struck a Nissan Pathfinder, driven by Steven Corley of Salley, SC, on Highway 302 around 6:00 p.m. Bush was a student at the Charleston School of Law.
Carlton said in a later release, 22-year-old Katie Scott of Couchton, SC, was pronounced dead at 12:25 p.m. at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Scott attended the College of Charleston, according to Carlton.
The wreck sent Bush, his passenger, Scott, and Corley to area hospitals. Bush was pronounced dead at Aiken Regional Medical Center. Scott had been listed in critical condition at the Medical College of Georgia Shock Trauma Unit. Corley was transported to MCG with non-life threatening injuries.
Witnesses say Corley was driving erratically at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour when his SUV slammed into Bush's vehicle. Carlton said the collision happened while Corley was trying to pass another vehicle.
Bush and Scott were both home on Christmas break. Carlton said they were returning to the Scott residence in Couchton after having dinner in Aiken.
It is unclear if any charges have been filed. The crash is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner's Office.
Toxicology results are pending.
