6 year old gets 'snowy' Christmas wish

GLENNVILLE, GA (WTOC) - The smile on Colby Anderson's face could have melted the unusual patch of snow in his front yard. The 6 year old called it the best Christmas present in his life.

He shared the snow with cousins, friends and everyone else in on the surprise. It was the only thing he'd asked Santa for this year. When Dean Stone, owner of IHS Pharmacy in Metter, heard about his request, his staff teamed with SnowSouth of Darien to subcontract for Santa because even he has trouble bringing snow to South Georgia.

"Dean Stone has five kids of his own so he knows about that one wish for Christmas," explained IHS staff member Jamey Kemp.

"When we heard about it, we wanted to help make his wish a reality," added IHS's Scottie Davis.

Colby received a letter just days ago from Santa. He asked if his team could deliver the snow a few days early to avoid the Christmas Eve rush. For a little boy battling leukemia, no gift, smile, or memory comes "too early" for him or his parents.

"We never get snow in Glennville. I'm just glad he's with us to enjoy it. Just thankful my baby is here," said his mother, Rebecca Anderson.

Colby missed out on the fun many experienced back in February when an unusual blizzard hit Southeast Georgia. He was sick that week and that's when doctors diagnosed him with the disease. But Wednesday, even a chemotherapy treatment earlier in the day couldn't keep Colby from enjoying the wintery fun and give his parents hope for a future.

"We hope Colby can get better down the line and maybe see some more snow on down the road," said his dad, David Anderson.

No one was sure how long the snow would last, but for a few hours, Colby and his family could forget everything else and make a holiday memory they'll  keep as long as they can.
