Pedestrian dies while trying to cross street

CLARENDON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A 49-year-old Richburg man is dead after attempting to walk across SC 261 near Manning Friday night.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says Lee Van was crossing at WL Hamilton Road around 7:15pm when he ran into the driver's side of a 2002 Buick, driven by 58-year-old Joseph Digulis. Troopers say the point of impact was around the front left tire.

Van was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner says he died from multi-trauma injuries sustained during the crash.

Digulis was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

Troopers says no charges have been filed. The incident remains under investigation.
