Jimmy Buffett plans new development for Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - After bringing a successful restaurant to Broadway at the Beach in 2004, sources report Jimmy Buffett's company plans to bring another restaurant and retail complex to Myrtle Beach.

On Wednesday Koch Development confirmed plans for a Buffett space at the site of the SkyWheel project off of Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach. The Skywheel, a multi-million dollar attraction, is expected to open in May of 2011. Sources kept many of the details about the project quiet, admitting an announcement of the project had been planned for next week.

"To have it downtown where we're already working so hard to revitalize the area, this is going to be a huge asset for the area." said Myrtle Beach City Councilman Randal Wallace.

In July a company representing Buffett's business interests made headlines after reporting "interest" in starting a Buffett style hotel in the Grand Strand. So far, no official plans for a hotel development have been released.
