COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Although the Gamecocks suffered defeat in the SEC Championship game against Auburn, USC fans have a lot to celebrate as this year's athletic season winds down.
2010 has been a year of "firsts" and they're calling it the trifecta. This so-called trifecta is all about beating the #1 teams in three different sports all in one year.
The Gamecock men's baseball team not only won the national title, but beat the number one team in the nation to get there. Our football team beat the #1 ranked team, Alabama, in their quest for the SEC title, and the men's basketball team defeated #1 Kentucky earlier this year.
USC fans have never been fair-weather fans. They have suffered through some very bleak seasons while managing to maintain loyalty to the garnet and black. Now we have some real reasons to celebrate, to feel positive, and carry the momentum into the coming years. There's no shame in being proud and maybe even a little "cocky" for a change. It feels good to be a winner!
All this positivity is good for the university, good for the fan base and good for the image of South Carolina. And though some sports are more high profile than others, let's be sure to support all Gamecock athletic programs with our attendance and encouragement.
That's my perspective and I'd like to hear from you.
