Gamecocks apologize to fans for poor performance in title game

ATLANTA, GA (WIS) - Saturday night, the Gamecocks sounded like a Brenda Lee tribute chorus during post-game interviews. Each player we talked to apologized in one form or fashion after Saturday's 56-17 loss to Auburn in the SEC Title game.

"Right now we're a pretty upset bunch of guys," said quarterback Stephen Garcia. "It's very tough to describe how we feel right now."

The USC defense came just 11 yards shy of giving up 600 yards of total yards of offense to the Tigers. The Gamecocks' offense only mustered five of 12 third down conversions. "They were just the better team today," said Stephon Gilmore. "They did everything we didn't do. They made big plays, and we didn't."

56 points is the most anyone has hung on the champions of the SEC East this season. "That was the loudest pregame I've ever been to in my life, and I thank the Gamecocks' fans" said Head Coach Steve Spurrier. "I wish we could've given you something to cheer about during the game, but we couldn't."
