High tech helping tourists to SC's south coast

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Tourism for the southern end of
the South Carolina coast is going high-tech to help make it even
more attractive for visitors.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports that by mid-December, a
40-inch touch-screen device will be operating from the welcome
center of the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce's Visitor &
Convention Bureau.

The assistance portal allows people to get information on things
to do and see in Beaufort County and send coupons to their cell
phones.

It cost $20,000 and is being paid for with the help of a grant
from accommodations tax revenues. The visitors bureau expects to
recoup the costs by selling listings to local businesses.
