The former manager of a Batesburg-Leesville McDonald's where an employee was murdered in 2010 has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for arranging the staged armed robbery, according to the State Attorney General's Office.

Roderquiz Cook, 30, was convicted on April 12 on murder, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and attempted armed robbery.

A Lexington County judge sentenced Cook to 30 years on murder, which he will have to serve day for day for 30 years.  He also received 20 years on the attempted armed robbery charge and five years on the conspiracy charge, the maximum for each offense, to be served concurrently with the murder conviction.

Prosecutors said while working as the night manager of the McDonald's on October 13, 2010, Cook arranged to have his cousin and a friend stage an armed robbery of the restaurant. Cook instructed them on details ranging from what clothing to wear, to use of a gun, to the plan.

At the designated time, he told employee Willie Jennings, 57, to take out the trash. Cook instructed the co-defendants to point the gun at Jennings and walk him back to the restaurant where Cook would be waiting to give them the money.

Jennings did not come back into the restaurant willingly, as Cook had planned, and was fatally shot.

Tasha Marie Matthews, who was living with Cook, was arrested after the shooting along with Angelo Pierce Tucker, and Meon Mikel DeAnglius Miller when police found a gun in the trio's car. The three were charged with murder and conspiracy and denied bond.

Matthews, Tucker and Miller testified against Cook during the trial. All three are still facing charges.
