SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A 35-year-old truck driver was killed Thursday morning in Sumter County when deputies say an SUV pulled out in front of him.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, David Ardis Jr. was driving a 2010 Volvo 18-wheeler south on St. Paul Church Road around 7:35am. At the same time, 25-year-old Monica Beck of Sumter was driving a 2004 Saturn Vue west on McCrays Mill Road.
As Ardis entered the intersection with McCrays Mill Road, troopers said Beck tried to turn left onto St. Paul Church Road. Ardis' truck hit Beck's SUV on the front passenger side, jack-knifed and went into a ditch where the truck hit a tree and flipped.
Ardis was wearing a seatbelt, but died at the scene. Beck was also wearing a seatbelt, and was taken to Tuomey Hospital with non-life threatening injuries
There has been no word on any criminal charges related to the wreck.
