COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - South Carolina political leadership is headed for a makeover with state Republican Party Chairman Karen Floyd planning to step down at the end of her term.
Floyd made the announcement in the State House rotunda Wednesday afternoon. She said she is going to start a new business venture with her business partner when her term is over.
The announcement leaves the state's top GOP political job up for grabs as the 2012 GOP primary season ramps up.
News of Floyd's plans comes a week after Republican Nikki Haley's election as governor. The state GOP also banished the Democratic Party from all statewide offices and beat long-serving U.S. Rep. John Spratt.
