Man tightening down load on truck hit and killed

WINNSBORO, SC (WIS) - A man was struck and killed near Winnsboro Tuesday afternoon while trying to tighten down a load on his truck, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Lance Corporal Josef Robinson said the incident happened shortly before 3:00 p.m. on Hwy 321 bypass.

The Fairfield County Coroner identified the victim as 51-year-old Efrain Maleonaeo.

Robinson said Maleonaeo was pulling a strap on his truck when it slipped out.  According to investigators, when the strap slipped, it caused him to fall into the roadway where he was hit by a passing mini-van.

The driver of the van was not injured in the accident. The Highway Patrol is investigating.
