Elderly woman carjacked in Forest Acres

FOREST ACRES, SC (WIS) - Forest Acres police say an 85-year-old woman was carjacked last month, and officers need your help finding the suspect.

Cameras caught the crime in progress. Police released that video Monday with the hope that someone may have some information that will lead to an arrest.

Police said the elderly woman was waiting in her mini-van outside the Kroger on Forest Drive on October 29 while her son went grocery shopping.

In the video, a man is seen opening the driver's side door and pulling the woman out of the van.

Audrey Taylor saw it all. She was waiting for her sister to get off work that night when it happened. "I looked over and heard somebody say help, help! At first, I thought it was a joke," said Taylor.

In an attempt to stop the carjacker, Taylor ran to the back of the victim's van, but the suspect did not stop. "He acted like he didn't see me there," said Taylor. The suspect missed hitting Taylor, but did hit a red van that was blocking him in before driving off.

"If it was my mother, my grandmother, I would want someone to do the same," said Taylor. "I just hope she's okay. I hope she doesn't let this scare her."

The van was spotted the next day in a parking lot on Pinebelt Road, and recovered on October 31 by Richland County deputies.

No description was given of the suspect. Anyone with information on the carjacking is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
