SPARTANBURG, SC (WIS) - Deputies are looking for a man who has been showing up without pants at apartment complexes near the University of South Carolina Upstate.

The unidentified man has been exposing himself and sneaking into women's bedrooms for almost two years.

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright says his department has received more than 20 complaints since 2009. "Well, he's a roaming pervert. He is a traveling peeping tom," said Wright.

A July 2009 surveillance image from Campus Edge Apartments shows the man walking in without any pants on.

Wright says the man isn't content to just look anymore.  In the most recent report, the victim, Ashley Petty, says the intruder touched her while she was sleeping.

"He was touching my leg and all of the sudden I screamed and as soon as I screamed, he took off running," said Petty. "The one night that we left it unlocked, he got in."

"I feel like he's watching very closely his victims before he does anything with them," said Wright. Concern escalated recently when the man opened unlocked patio doors and stood over female residents while they slept, deputies said.

Wright says women around USC upstate should be alert, travel in groups and report anything suspicious.

Deputies say the man usually wears gym clothes and usually covers his head with a baseball cap or a hoodie and smokes cigarettes.

Wright says the man needs to be caught before his behavior escalates again. "I'm not trying to mash the panic button by any means, but I need you to think back to people, you're gonna know the guy."

The sheriff says if you recognize the flasher, call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
