More I-385 construction to begin

GREENVILLE, SC (AP) - Work on 15 miles of the southern end of Interstate 385 wrapped up in July.

Now workers will begin work near the northern end of the highway, widening the heavily traveled road to six lanes between Simpsonville and Greenville.

The Greenville News reported Friday the construction on the 5.5 mile stretch is expected to take two years.

The $65 million plan includes replacing sections of asphalt with stronger, longer lasting concrete, as well as repaving entrance and exit ramps.

Transportation Department officials say 60,000 motorists use the road every day now. That's expected to increase to 80,000 a day by 2028.
