ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Orangeburg County deputies have arrested a 48-year-old Eutawville man who they say killed his wife before trying to commit suicide.
Deputies say Clyde Mecke, Jr. called 911 threatening to kill himself Tuesday. When crews arrived, they found Mecke surrounded by pill bottles and his 53-year-old wife, Dorothy, shot and killed.
Mecke told investigators he and his wife were arguing when she shot and killed herself. In a handwritten note, Mecke admitted to, after the incident, 'cleaning her up and putting her in the bed.'
Mecke was taken to a hospital for treatment. Sheriff's department spokesperson Keisa Peterson said Mecke was arrested over the weekend and charged with murder.
