AIKEN, SC (WIS) - Investigators have released the name of a Fripp Island man killed in a small plane crash Thursday morning in a wooded area near Aiken.
Aiken County Sheriff's Captain Troy Elwell said the Cessna 210 crashed around 9:35am off Snipes Pond Road. Stephen Bruce Radke, 49, was the plane's only occupant and died in the crash.
Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said Radke was flying from Beaufort to Aiken to get some instrumentation work done on the plane before flying to Florida with his wife.
Radke was reported to be in good health, and had approximately four years experience as a pilot. Carlton said the weather at the time was foggy, raining severely and windy.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Bureau are investigating.
