John Farley is WIS News 10's Chief Meteorologist. He anchors weather in the 4, 5, 6, 7 and 11pm WIS newscasts.
John is a passionate meteorologist with over 15 years of experience. He particularly enjoys the challenge of forecasting severe weather in the Midlands. Before coming to WIS, he was the Chief Meteorologist at KNTV, the NBC affiliate serving San Francisco, San Jose, and Oakland California. While at KNTV, he received the 2007 Emmy as Best Weathercaster for Northern California, Northern Nevada and Hawaii.
John received his Masters degree in Meteorology from San Jose State University. His undergraduate degree is in finance from the University of Massachusetts. John has the American Meteorological Society's Seal of Approval and is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist.
John has a diverse weather background. In graduate school, he taught weather and climate to teachers, while working under a Grant from the National Science Foundation. He worked for several years on an aviation project where he and his colleagues developed models to forecast fog at San Francisco Airport. For their effort, they were the recipients of the FAA Excellence in Aviation Award. He worked as a consultant to a large utility company where he forecasted weather for all of Northern California, as well as used wind models to project how much energy would be generated from proposed wind farms.
John and his wife Maura co-founded an annual Holiday Food Drive for San Francisco Bay Area food banks. John is happy to report that the Food Drive still lives on today.
John and Maura have three children, Grace, Rosemary, and Jack.
