COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Quick police response thwarted one man's attempt to steal from Family Dollar, according to police.

Interim Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott said 19-year-old Anthony Sykie Brown was arrested after breaking into the business on Taylor Street around midnight Monday.

Scott said South Region Officers responded to an alarm call at 2300 Taylor Street and found the front glass door of the business busted out.  Officers secured the building and found Brown inside.

Brown attempted to run out the back door, but was quickly caught by Columbia police.

Brown is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Scott said, "with the quick response from South Region Officers to the business' alarm and establishing a perimeter around the building, the suspect was unable to escape with stolen property."
