Should I trick-or-treat on Saturday or Sunday?

WHITMIRE, SC (WIS) - Lots of people are wondering when they should trick or treat. Many people are choosing to observe the holiday on Saturday, because October 31 falls on a Sunday. One Midlands town never follows the traditional October 31 trick-or-treating.

Halloween is a time for costumes, candy and of course trick-or-treating. The long-standing tradition is to observe the holiday on October 31. This year that date falls on a Sunday, so some families are choosing to celebrate another day. "With it being school the next day, I think Saturday is the day to go," said Danica Holloway.

But no matter what day of the week Halloween falls on, some are following tradition. "We're going to follow, probably be Sunday," said Matt Moslet.

People like Darlene Wicker in the town of Whitmire will be trick or treating the day before Halloween. "We always do it every year," said Darlene Wicker.

Whitmire council members actually vote to allow trick or treating the Saturday before Halloween no matter what day of the week the 31st falls. She says that has nothing to do with it falling on a Sunday. "It's better for everybody and the kids too," said Wicker. "They don't gave to get up and go to school the next day."

Newberry Sheriff Lee Foster says his office has received lots of calls from people asking when they should trick or treat this year. "There has not been anything by the government to change the date, so we are just recommending folks do it on the traditional October 31," said Foster.

No matter when you go or what you wear, remember that safety is most important. "Rather than going out and going to a stranger's home or walking the street, we recommend that you go to organized functions," said Foster.
