Gamecocks fall in polls after loss to Kentucky

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS)- The night after Kentucky fans got exactly what they wanted, a victory over a team with Steve Spurrier at the helm, Carolina fans got what they thought would be the result: a slide in the polls.

The coaches have the Gamecocks placed at 20, the press at 19.

The new number one is Oregon, a team that will try to avoid being the third straight number one team to lose this season.

Even after USC knocked off number one Alabama on October 10, many old school Gamecock fans began listening for the sounds of air wrenches wondering when the wheels would come off, just like they did against Navy in 1984

The wheels began to fall off in the second half against Kentucky when running back Marcus Lattimore, a one man offensive show, left the game with an ankle sprain in the third quarter. The play that summed it all up came at the hands of Wildcat WR Randall Cobb with 1:15 to go in the game with a touchdown catch to put Kentucky ahead for good.
